Bonita Springs Bus Route in Full Swing

Posted:

LeeTran, the Lee County bus route is now approaching its second year in operation with a bus route from Lee County to Collier County. This great connection has been because of a grand used to launch LinC, the connection between Lee and Collier County. This funding will be available for the route through September 2014 at which time they will reassess the need and demand. The Florida Department of Transportation hopes that the local transit agencies will seek to explore other opportunities for funding and begin to budget their own operations.Bonita Springs Bus Route in Full Swing

The LeeTran connection runs every 90 minutes between the Coconut Point Mall in Estero and the Creekside transfer center in North Naples. From there riders can connect to other Collier area transit routes. Ridership has increased almost 18% in 2013 compared to the same time in 2012 so this is definitely an improvement for transportation in the area. There’s over 9000 trips a month on this route.

Unfortunately, this new route has come at a price. There are no current funds available in the budget to continue this route which means that either additional funds will be needed beyond September 2014 or individual area transit’s will have to come up with their own funding for connecting the routes.

Certain residents can now use this route to get to doctors and dentists appointments out of the city especially if they don’t have a car and use this route frequently. This is been a blessing to not only families but workers as a cost-effective transportation option. In a combination of state and local taxes and funding, the LinC connection has been a well-needed addition to the bus routes in Bonita Springs and Estero.

More Details about the Route:
