Bonita Springs Gets a Marina
Bonita Springs received some good news today.
A historic marina on Estero Bay will become part of the city and Bonita will receive a property tax revenue boost, according to this article from the Fort Myers News-Press, with the addition of the marina and also land to the north.
The City Council unanimously voted 6-0 to approve a voluntary annexation agreement with the property owners of the former Weeks Fish Camp on Estero Bay from unincorporated Lee County into the city.
In addition to the 17-acre marina, Estero Bay Marine seeks to annex into the city 13 adjacent acres where it plans to build the Estero Bay Marina and Resort featuring a hotel and condos, restaurant, shops and garage, the News-Press article says.
“That’s a $2.2 million taxable assessed value,” City Manager Carl Schwing said. “Estero Bay Marine is interested in developing this property to the tune of maybe as much as $100 million.”
“This would be a big economic driver for the city,” he added.
Schwing said, in this Naples Daily News article, the city would benefit from the synergy created between the Hyatt Regency Coconut Resort and Spa and the Raptor Bay Golf Club’s proximity.
